The food is good quality, but because they are tapas, prices add up and the food is influenced by Vancouver Japanese food... so it's not authentic, which was disappointing. Staff is really friendly. It's so incredibly loud here because they cheer and yell like they do in Izakayas in Japan.Read more

I'm no connoisseur of sushi or Japanese food, but I have had it a few times elsewhere in Toronto, this is certainly the best experience each time I go. The restaurant itself is clean and nice, the food is good and the service is quick. (Not always friendly, but quick) I usually order pretty generic stuff- california roll, bento box, veg. tempura, etc. Cant beat this place, IMO.Read more

We had noticed this restaurant as we were walking downtown and decided to give it a try, best decision ever! When you walk in, the decor is amazing, they have a life-size figurine of a geisha and many ornamental items in the foyer. The waitress was pleasant and kind, attending to all of our needs. I got the sushi bento box meal and it only cost $7.99, it filled me up! The rice and sushi were incredible, and the fried vegetables were tasty. I was impressed with the wonderful service and amazing atmosphere. I would definitely return again!!Read more

I visited last night for the first time for a friends birthday party I have to say the atmosphere was very nice the food was good the only downfall being a disabled person is with the washrooms be in downstairs. Overall it was a good night and a big thank you to our waitress Alley for keeping on top of her toes and making sure everybody had everything they needed in the celebration. Read more

DonDon Izakaya is Toronto's own little taste of Japan. I once visited Tokyo on a business trip, and I remember going to this strange thing called an "izakaya" on several occasions. I remember my first time: I didn't understand why we couldn't just order our own dishes or why it had to be so loud! But by the end of the night, after several decanters of sake had been shared among our group, it all just seemed perfect. DonDon kinda feels this way too. The food may not be gourmet, but it's a ton of fun to eat! (I've heard that we shouldn't expect high-quality foods from izakayas since they are more like pubs anyway!) And the atmosphere is spot on. Oh, and don't even get me started on the drinks. I fell in love with sake in Japan and we've been reunited at DonDon. I've only been to DonDon once, but I'll definitely be going back again!Read more
